The use of Hangeul greatly advanced and accelerated the spread of information among people, resulting in significant social and cultural changes. Through eonhae (translating Chinese into Korean and writing in Hangeul), a wide range of knowledge was dispersed, allowing Hangeul to gradually take root as the primary alphabet used in daily life. In the late nineteenth century, even more people were exposed to Hangeul with the import of modern printing techniques. Furthermore, since the twentieth century, various efforts have been made to adapt Hangeul for use with transcription machines such as typewriters and computers.
